World land speed record breaker Richard Noble, OBE will perform the official opening duties on the first day of IMHX 2013, the UK’s largest intralogistics event, which takes place at Birmingham’s NEC on March 19th-22nd.
Noble, who held the record between 1983 and 1997 at the wheel of Thrust2, will carry out ribbon-cutting duties at the Skills & Apprenticeships Zone in Hall 17, in front of his latest land speed record vehicle, Bloodhound SSC.
Noble is project leader for this new record attempt, which with Andy Green at the wheel is attempting to pass the 1,000mph mark, beating the existing record (of 763mph, also held by Green) by 33%, the largest margin in land
speed record history.
The Bloodhound project ties in well with the message of the IMHX Skills & Apprenticeships Zone, for it is primarily an education project designed to inspire future generations to take up careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics by showcasing these subjects in the most exciting way possible.
“Attracting a world-renowned engineer of the calibre of Richard Noble is a real feather in the cap of IMHX,” commented Rob Fisher, director of Informa Exhibitions’ Materials Handling Group, which organises IMHX. “He represents what can be achieved at the top end of the industry, which is crying out for role models to attract fresh blood into engineering. His presence at IMHX is a massive boost, and we will be delighted to host him at the event and show him the expertise that runs through the intralogistics industry.”
Bloodhound has been brought to IMHX by Linde Material Handling UK, its handling partner, which is charged with moving the full-sized Bloodhound display model from event to event with vehicles from its fleet of short-term hire forklifts.
The Bloodhound team expects to make its first high-speed runs in the Hakskeen Pan, South Africa, towards the end of 2013. Richard will be bringing visitors to IMHX up-to-date with the project with a presentation in the Logistics Excellence theatre in Hall 17 of IMHX on Tuesday 19th March.
IMHX 2013 takes place across four sold-out halls of the NEC, and is the UK logistics industry’s largest and most well-attended event. To register to attend IMHX for free, and receive your exclusive pre-registered visitor pack, go to www.imhx.biz/register.
